Sikkema Jenkins & Co. Gallery in New York has been renamed Sikkema Malloy Jenkins. The gallery said in a press release that the change comes as part of the partnership between partner Meg Malloy and founders Brent Sikkema and Michael Jenkins. in recognition of its contribution to its development over two decades. The name change was approved in 2023, followed by Sikkema’s murder in January 2024.
Originally founded in 1991 as Wooster Gardens in Soho, the gallery has grown to represent more than 30 artists, including Kara Walker, Vic Mooney Established artists such as Vik Muniz and Arturo Herrera, as well as emerging artists such as Heidi Lau and Keltie Ferris. The gallery was known for its early support of underrepresented artists, including women, artists of color, and queer artists.
In a press release announcing the name change, Malloy said: “Michael and I remain committed to the gallery’s independent spirit and unwavering commitment to its artists, which was the foundation of Brent’s original vision.” Malloy joined in 2002 gallery and became a partner in 2005.
Jenkins, who joined the gallery as director in 1997 and was named partner in 2003, said there was widespread support for the name change. “I’m delighted to see Meg receive this recognition, and I know the artist, our gallery’s long-time friends and clients will agree.”
