Photographer Megan Reilly was born on Staten Island, grew up in the Hudson Valley, and graduated from the State University of New York with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and photography. Her series, “A Deal with God,” is an introspective photo essay reflecting on themes such as childhood, religion, lesbianism, and learning how to grow into a woman:
“As a child, my first memories and understanding of life began with the events of 9/11. The camera lens acted like a microscope, allowing me to privately question the conservative American belief system I was a part of. In retrospect, this project was created as a way for me to take up space as a storyteller and address the emotional bondage I felt throughout my adolescence. Now I am able to settle down, relate to metaphysical philosophies, and search for answers, peace, home, connection to people, and a higher power. Photography has served as both protection and representation, granting freedom of expression and the liberation of curiosity.”
