British artist Tracy Emin will be awarded the title of Dame for her significant contribution to the art world. Born in 1963, Emin is known for her intimate and candid style. As one of the Young British Artists, she rose to fame in the 1990s for her work: My bed (1998) and Everyone I’ve Ever Slept With (1963–1995) (1995), which taps into her personal experiences.
Emin graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA and was included in the King’s Birthday Honours list alongside Imelda Staunton and Monica Ali.
Last fall, Emin opened “Tomb of a Lover” at White Cube in New York, featuring 26 new works she created during her battle with bladder cancer. Her most recent exhibition is on view at Xavier Hufkens Gallery in Brussels until July 27, and another will open at White Cube in London in September.
Today, Emin’s expressive and sensual paintings are among the most sought-after by female artists on both the primary and secondary markets, and her work is held in collections such as the Tate and the Museum of Modern Art.
