Illustrator Noopur Choksi creates a body of work that depicts the parallels between femininity and forms and patterns found in nature. Originally from India, Choksi currently resides in Baltimore. She studied Graphic Design at the National Academy of Design and recently received her MFA in Illustration Practice from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work seeks to externalize the often intangible emotional context of her work. She strives to create visuals that challenge perception and offer multiple layers of interpretation. “The Nature of Being” explores the interplay between individuality, social structures, and the natural world:
“At its core, it explores the complex relationship between our inner and outer worlds as aspects of the self are objectified in nature. By interweaving aspects of science, nature, surrealism, and symbolism, I aim to vividly portray ethereal, introspective, and liminal realms. How can we explore the female body without falling into the trap of biological determinism? How can I visualize the wonders, limitations, absurdities, and expressions of the female form in a way that is intimate yet universal?”
