A series of photographs by Los Angeles-based artist Rosie Clements, printed using UV light on bubble wrap. Clements started out as a traditional photographer, but more recently she has begun to introduce materiality into digital images—“reconstructing them as physical entities”:
“The bubble wrap is often discarded after a single use, reflecting the ephemeral nature of digital photographs, which are easily shared and forgotten in our media-saturated world. The bubbles suggest the tactility of individual pixels. These works ask the viewer to take their time to appreciate them – some are only visible at the right angle or distance, and appear almost completely abstract up close.”
The series invites viewers to rethink the way they interact with images, and highlights the importance of texture and materiality in an age dominated by the intangible digital realm. See more of “Pure Semblance” below.
