Thanks to a generous gift from the Walton Family Philanthropic Support Foundation in 2017, the school was able to expand its graduate program offerings and provide unprecedented financial support.
In fall 2022, the School of Art offers accredited graduate programs in the Master of Arts in Art Education and Master of Communication Design.
The two-year Master of Arts in Art Education program is designed for students seeking to expand and deepen their knowledge of the theory and practice of art education. It trains arts educators to be culturally responsive and leverage interdisciplinary, collaborative teaching and research to address current and future challenges in arts education.
Additionally, over the course of two years, the MDes graduate program focuses on communication and participatory design, helping students inspire and create equitable and sustainable solutions through design for their communities and beyond.
As Art Education and Graphic Design welcomes its first students, the Art History Program, in partnership with the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, launches a Master of Fine Arts degree specializing in the art of the Americas. Students experience innovative programs that reimagine art history through theme-based courses, hands-on learning with objects, unique travel opportunities, and internship experiences designed to propel students into diverse arts careers.
These new graduate programs enhance the School of Art’s interdisciplinary vision and build on the established M.A. in Studio Art program. This three-year resident MFA program is designed to support a variety of approaches to art-making, as well as rigorous theoretical inquiry, research, and social awareness.
The application deadline for all postgraduate programs is January 15, 2025.
