Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and fashion brand Louis Vuitton will launch a new fashion merchandise line in January 2025, more than 20 years after they first collaborated. The new series will be released in two installments. The first selection will debut globally on January 1, 2025, featuring new versions of original collaborations enhanced with modern digital technology. This will be followed by the launch of a second product in March 2025.
The extensive collection includes leather goods, footwear and other accessories, each decorated with Murakami’s world-famous floral patterns and vibrant colors. A standout feature of the collection is the Monogram Multicolore pattern, which reinterprets the classic LV logo in 33 colors and adorns accessories on a white or black background. This new pattern, while similar to previous collaborative designs, is created using advanced printing technology to deliver sharper detail and richer colors than the original range.
Murakami’s famous “Superflat Panda” character will also appear on a number of new bags, wallets and necklaces. The products will come with a range of fragrances decorated with designs such as Murakami’s “Super Flat Garden”. The collaboration’s second collection will launch in March 2025 and feature Murakami’s “Sakura” pattern.
Louis Vuitton and Murakami first collaborated in 2003, when the fashion house’s artistic director Marc Jacobs brokered the collaboration for that year’s spring and summer collection. At the time, it was one of the most high-profile collaborations between a fashion brand and a visual artist. Much like the upcoming collection, it features the Louis Vuitton logo in a colorful rainbow palette, as well as accessories featuring Haruki Murakami’s anime characters.
This isn’t Murakami’s only recent foray into fashion. In November, the artist also collaborated with the shoe company VIOLET ST to launch an independent shoe brand Ohana Hatake called Ohana Hatake.
